As the UK’s leading independent drinks retailer, the Thresher Group is the first off-licence group to offer existing and established branches for franchise across England and Wales.

With a Thresher’s store only ten minutes walk away from more than 30 million customers, the scheme offers a unique opportunity for anyone interested in owning a branded off-licence franchise, backed by the biggest name in the business.

Under the scheme applicants are expected to pay £20,000, plus stock value, to take over an established store and run it as their own business. Franchisees will be able to make many local decisions about the range, pricing and promotions to maximise their sales and profit as well as benefit from the strength of the group’s fascia brands (Thresher and The Local) as well as the group’s purchasing power, marketing, systems and buying expertise.

Thresher Group is offering several hundred of its branches on a unique franchise agreement.

These profitable branches are offered as going concern with:

Prospective Franchisees will be offered appropriate training; this will be mandatory and will cover the following:
  • Getting Started in Franchising
  • Making a Success of your Franchise
  • WSET Foundation Certificate in Wine
  • Business Management Systems
All Franchisees will also be given the opportunity to spend time in an existing Franchise store to give that ‘hands-on’ experience prior to commencement.

The entry fee for a Thresher Group Franchise is £20,000. In addition a prospective Franchisee will need to pay to us:-
  • Occupation Fee - paid monthly in advance
  • Initial stock deposit - as counted and calculated on the day the store transfers to Franchise
  • Management Service Fee - paid weekly in arrears (a percentage of sales)
  • On-going weekly purchases of stock
These amounts will all vary according to the store and current circumstances; once a prospective Franchisee is discussing a specific opportunity with us we shall be able to provide estimates for these figures. In addition to the entry fee, a prospective Franchisee will need to have investment funds of between £20,000 and £40,000 to purchase stock and pay initial costs; the amount will vary by shop.

A number of well known high street banks are interested in providing financial support and business advice to prospective Thresher Group Franchisees. They are familiar with our Franchise arrangements and will discuss a potential Franchisee's requirements. It is not unusual for lenders to provide funding of up to 70% of a Franchisee's requirements, (subject to application, conditions and status etc).
